What is indexed in library databases
The index is a tool within the database. It is designed to help you find what you need to find. The database is the collection of data, held in tables. This information could fill many many Gbs and Tbs on a disk. A database index allows a query to efficiently retrieve data from a database. Indexes are related to specific tables and consist of one or more keys. A table can have more than one index built from it. The keys are a fancy term for the values we want to look up in the index. A database of library materials An online library catalog is an electronic bibliographic database that describes the books, videotapes, periodicals, etc. carried by a particular library. The online library catalog evolved from a printed source, the library card catalog. Indexing is a way of sorting a number of records on multiple fields. Creating an index on a field in a table creates another data structure which holds the field value, and a pointer to the record it relates to. This index structure is then sorted, allowing Binary Searches to be performed on it. Library Resources. Using library research databases will give you higher quality, more focused results than you may find by only doing a web search.
